Why are some show episodes no loner available for streaming?

Some shows will expire from streaming on show site or the show section of an app. On FOX.com and FOX NOW, connecting your account with a participating pay TV provider can unlock several more episodes. On FXNetworks.com, SimpsonsWorld.com and FXNOW, all full episodes require connecting with a participating TV provider. On NationalGeographic.com and the Nat Geo TV app, current season episodes require a participating TV provider.
