What does it mean to reset my DNS settings and how would I do that?

If you have gone through the basic troubleshooting steps for the FOX NOW, FXNOW, or Nat Geo TV app for the device connected to your TV, but have not had any luck, there is a more advanced step we can try on certain devices. Often times, resetting the DNS (Domain Name System) can help improve playback. We especially recommend this step when you’re seeing an interruption between an episode and the commercial break.
*Note: the DNS server we recommend using is a universal DNS setting (OpenDNS) that is fully functional regardless of what internet service provider you use.

The devices where a DNS reset is possible are the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Apple TV, and Samsung Smart TV/Blu-ray. Here’s how to reset the DNS on each device:

Xbox 360
- Go to the Xbox Dashboard and scroll to "Settings"
- Click "System"
- Click "Network settings"
- Select "Wireless” or “Wired", depending on your connection type
- Click "Configure network”
- Scroll to "Basic Settings"
- Click "DNS Settings."
- Switch from “Automatic” to "Manual"
- Set primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220"

Xbox One
- Go to the Xbox One home screen and click “Settings”
- Click “Network”
- Click “Advanced settings”
- Click “DNS settings” and switch it to “Manual”
- Set primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220"

Apple TV

- Click "General"
- Click "Network"
- Select "Ethernet" or your WiFi network, depending on how you connect your Apple TV
- Click "Configure DNS"
- Change from “Automatic” to "Manual"
- Set primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220".
